Stop and think...

I have come to a very realistic decision.....I have too much stash and I'm not buying anymore.  Now let me define that.  I've decided to put myself on a diet.....a diet of anything that has to do with needlework.  The only thing I am allowing myself to purchase is DMC floss because sometimes you just need a skein or two to finish something and that would be defeating the purpose of this decision.
I went into my sewing room this morning and looked at all of the knitting yarn I have and was very discouraged.  I knew in my heart that if I knitted from now to the day I die, I would never use up all this yarn and the same goes with my cross stitch.
My diet shall last 2 months this time.  During those 2 months, I'm going to be going thru my stash and picking out only what I know I will stitch.  I have just about all of The Drawn Thread and Just Nan patterns (many which are out of print) and I know I'll never stitch them so why keep them.  Another one I've collected over the years is Cross Eyed Cricket.  I could probably count on my fingers how many of these I've stitched.  Why keep them?????
At the end of these two months, you will find quite a long list on the blog Never Enough Stash and alot will just be given away.  So wish me luck and if you care to join in, please post your name and maybe we can make this into a contest of sorts.  So here it is August 22 and I promise myself I won't purchase anything before October 22.
Blessings as always,
Barbara

I'm in! I'd probably have better luck with this kind of diet than the losing weight kind! LOL I won't buy anything for two months, either. We can be partners. I'm going through my stuff, too. Between cross stitch and quilting/sewing fabric, I could open a store. PITIFUL.

Soooo, I'm in!

Lubs ya,

As you said - why keep them? I've reduced stash for the last year. But I'm not going on that diet! I'll just end up buying in three months what I didn't buy in two.

I know how you feel...I have been good as far as cross stitch goes this year--haven't purchased too much but I still have more charts than I will ever stitch. Unfortunately I have a new obsession--crochet--and now I have begun accumulating yarn. If you plan on parting with any portion of your yarn stash, there are takers out there :)

Barbara,
I need a serious crash diet!! How do you stop? I keep on saying, "no more" and then a week goes by and I have withdrawal! I am going to do this with you!!!

I can't join you as it's my Birthday in September and diets of any kind are strictly banned in my birth month!

I will however assist you in your de-stashing by buying some of your Just Nans and maybe a couple of Drawn Threads and ...what else have you got? LOL.

Good luck with your stash diet, and with purging.

I'm in as well! I will only buy things I need to finish a project, if necessary(my fabric stash is not very large.) Wonderful idea!

Oh and I have committed at a local shop to purchase the LK Mystery Sampler(already started) so I will have to buy the remaining parts. But that's it!

Very good idea! Was thinking of doing this myself at the end of this month, tho I had not said for just two months! I have lots of stash and am trying to use what I have for new projects. I lack in fabrics, but... I have projects kitted already with fabric that I can do! I love almost everything in my stash, so I could survive stitching from my stash only (except for the occasional fabric needed)for a season... Ebay will surely MISS me! Count me in! Hugs!

I'm in! I am finally getting realistic with myself and I'm going to purge the things that I bought "way back when" that I now look at and wonder what the heck was I thinking!?
I do still have lots of wonderful goodies in my stash that I DO want to stitch...and my VISA bill could stand to be lowered by a few dollars, for sure! I don't know if I could give up cookies for two months (don't I wish?!) but I'm happy to jump on the stash diet express with you! Here's hoping! :)
