Today is the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address given by Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the Gettysburg Civil War Cemetary.  I have been there many times and it still gives me chills to see these words.  Take a moment of your time today to read these words that are still appropriate for today's world.

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It seems like forever since I posted anything!  I've been busy here around the  house and also in my sewing room.  Fall has arrived here in Florida and it always makes me bring out my knitting needles and crochet hooks.  I've made 3 shawls but I'm not going to post pics until I have them blocked.  
I've also been working to finish up my SAL for 2013 and below are my finishes.  The first one is for December and it was so much fun to stitch.  


The november one is in honor of my grandmother, Anna Grace, with a "grandmother's garden" hexagon quilting design.  The brass heart is just to show how much I loved her.  So now I'm finished with the SAL and I've had several members remark  about how they are going to carry on this tradition every year.  I think it's a fabulous idea!   I would like to start a book that shows all the different kinds of stitches I can do for cross stitch and embroidery and maybe even some knitting, crocheting and hardanger.  This I will have to think on some more to get it the way I want it.  I hope everyone has enjoyed the SAL and please, if you haven't gone over to check out the beautiful work, give yourself a treat and go take a peek.  It's very much worth it.
