I am sooooo mad

We had an appointment with the Pulmonary doctor for 2:15 today.  We get to his office only to find out that they will have to reschedule the appointment because the doctor had been overbooked.  I told the receptionist that this was my husband's post operative appointment and that it was very important.  She told me that she didn't see anything that made his appointment very important and that he should come back on April 3rd at 3:00.

I have had it with doctors.  The health system in this country has gotten so bad I don't think they'll ever be able to fix it.  My husband goes in for a surgery and comes out with an infection that requires him to take antibiotics for the remainder of his life and the doctor that sent him to the hospital, can't take time to see him.  I give up.

Hope your day is going better.

Oh Barbara, how terrible for him (and you). I probably would call the office and leave a message for the doctor, a nurse, and the office manager. Since this is a post-op visit April 3rd would not be acceptable. Thinking of you and good luck!

Well that stinks. I guess the bright side would be that his tests were good enough to not require an immediate concern. But it's no excuse for the office to overbook and not let you know ahead of time. Don't bother with staff, ask for the manager and then let the doc know when you see him.

I would file a complaint.
That happened to me once also, they called me back to "reschedule", I said "no thanks", you can't even notify people before they drive all the way to the office?
They said they called, but I was at home all morning.......the phone never rang once. So, they lied about that.
Especially after I took a day off from work just for the appt!
And, she is wrong for telling you it isn't important.
Yes, the health system here is getting bad, it's like a business to them, no one cares.

Oh Barbara. I am sorry this happened to you. I unfortunately have learned that you must raise a stink. I do not prefer to cause trouble, but if you do not bother them, they just push you aside. If you are assertive they will move you up. Talk to the office manager. Insist on it.

I am sorry to hear about this.
Unfortunately, this seems to apply to a lot of countries around the world.
I am not one for creating troubles but I do believe like Marilyn an official complaint has to be made, this is not a serious professional manner to deal with patients.

Hi Barbara: that sucks if I were you I would go to the clinic tomorrow and sit until the doctor sees him, but hey that is me, I make mules look mild in attitude.

Good Luck

I am so sorry for the ill treatment your husband has received at the hands of the medical establishment. I don't know what country you are in, but one person commented his tests must have been O.K. and that is why they could do this ridiculous stunt of not seeing him. My husband was told his EKG was fine, to come back in two weeks. He died before that two weeks went by and we believed them about the tests. I got copies of them after he died, he had already suffered a heart attack and was in some sort of silent slow heart attack when they did the test. The tech had not wanted him to be let go, told him his test was abnormal, but then the doctor tells him it is fine. Who do you believe? in reality, a doctor did not look at his test until 3 1/2 hours after he was let go. and did we get a call then, NO. So don't take their word, get copies of every test your husband has and his medical records. I went through 9 law firms trying to get a malpractice case, didn't happen. The cardiologist that took care of him the night he died told me the entire medical system had failed him. So call, make a stink, April 3rd is FAR too long for a post operative checkup. do you have a regular doctor? you don't get where you need to go find another doctor, another place. Google their reviews, see if they are really as good as they think they are. this obviously hit a nerve. Take care from Iowa.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. A post-operative appointment and he has to wait until April 3rd. That is totally out of line. Shame on them!! Sending prayers to you and your husband.
