Good afternoon Ladies. I hope everyone is having a nice peaceful Sunday with family and friends around them. I was able to finish the dark purple cowl today and I thought I'd share that with you.
This one was knitted using Tosh DK from Madelinetosh and it really gives you a good stitch definition. It's soft to the touch and will be quite comfortable to wear here in Florida this winter. The pin is one I bought at Joann's. It seems that lapel pins are becoming quite popular this year. I've also seen them worn on hats. I do have a hat pattern I want to make for myself but usually hats and I do not get along. We'll see.
Now for the bad news. Last Thursday my hubby had an appointment with the cardiovascular surgeon and it was determined that he needs to have his open heart surgery sooner than we thought. It is scheduled for Nov. 10th and yes I'm a basket case. They have to replace his aortic valve in his heart and also replace the aorta that comes out of your heart at the top for about 3 inches. That is where his anurysm is so the surgeon decided just to replace that part of the aorta. To say I am scared is putting it mildly. My hubby has had 3 surgeries in the last 8 years but this one is the worse. I hope and pray that he comes thru alright because I don't know what I would do without him. All he asked the surgeon was to keep him alive long enough to see his first great grandchild. That brought tears.
So now I have a question to ask each and every one of you. We all have movies that we watch when we are down in the dumps and these movies lift our spirit. For me "It's A Wonderful Life". I put that movie in and I just feel better by the end. I'm going to need more movies like this in the next few weeks, so please share with me your pick me up movie.
Blessings to all of you and don't forget to tell your Love Ones that you love them,
Barbara

My dear friend, I am so sorry for the stress you are feeling. I will keep you both in my thoughts daily....
I am so sorry to hear about your hubby. At least they are getting him in for the operation very quickly. I hope it all goes well for him.
I'm a fan of Sci Fi and Fantasy films so I'm not sure if they count as uplifting, but one of my favourites is Labyrinth with the Jim Henson Creatures and David Bowie. It's funny film with a lovely message and David Bowie in very tight trousers!
I am praying for you both still. God is in control Barbara.
Your cowl is lovely.
I love The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz.
I'm sorry to hear about your hubby, but remember God is still in the Miracle business. They can do wonders these days in the medical field, and i'm sure your dh will be fine.
I have 2 bil's that have had aortic aneurysms and both are still here today to talk about it,and with both of them their surgeries were emergency surgeries,as they didn't even know they had a problem until it was almost too late.In fact one of them was on a fishing trip in Canada when his struck,so he is extremely lucky they even got him in the hospital on time.(he's from Virginia) so was a long way from home.
I'll be sending up prayers for you, your dh and his medical team.Hang in there.
As for movies, sorry i can't help you out in that dept as i'm not a movie buff.I go to music when i need to be lifted up,or settled down.
Take care, try not to stress too much.i know easier said than done.

You're in my thoughts and prayers Barb. What a worrying time. I like to watch favourite films from childhood when I'm anxious. The Wizard of Oz is a favourite.
Lifting you and your husband up in prayer as you wait on the upcoming surgery, for the surgery itself and the recovery period. The Lord is mighty.

PS Your purple cowl turned out lovely.
Your Cowl is pretty.
Sorry to hear about your DH's surgery.
I will keep him in my thoughts, that's for sure.
A cute Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus.
I watch this a lot, it's so darn cute.
The Secret Life of Bees is another fantastic movie also.
Take care.

Sending prayers for both of you. Please let us know how he does. A couple of faves of mine are: The Muppets Christmas Carol and You've Got Mail. If you run out, I love chick flicks try Saturday night on Hallmark Channel. They are running new movies every weekend. And Starting October 31 they're starting Countdown to Christmas. They have some great Christmas movies they always show and I love them. Another great channel to check for movies is ABC Family. Email me if you run out, I'll try to think of more. I'm so sorry you guys are having to deal with this. I will be thinking of you. The scarf is beautiful!
Barbara, I'm sorry to read about your hubby's health issues! I hope all goes well with his surgery. If you don't mind a Christmassy movie, I like The Holiday with Kate Winslet. I also like Something's Gotta Give with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Then, there's always the Grumpy Old Men 1 and 2. Take care!!
Praying for your husband. I hope it all comes out okay. As far as movies go, I'm an old movie buff, so I watch Turner Classic Movie channel.
Maybe it's best to have it done sooner and remove the chance of an emergency. The nurse in Cleveland gave a talk to family members while loved ones were in surgery and it was very helpful about what to expect the first few days. She said we wouldn't recognize them and this is normal. Everyone looks so different (and bad) but she told us that it has nothing to do with how well they are doing and do not be upset! It's a good thing we were warned and also very true! With the new technology and procedures, I'm sure they will do everything possible to correct it all and make him start feeling good. But I can understand your stress, anxiety, and worry. Please keep us posted because our thoughts will be with you and hubby.
