I've been working on this non stop and I thought I'd show you how far I am. I've finished the entire lower right corner and I'm working across to the left. I've got my parents initials done and their wedding date and I love how they turned out. I found the alphabet online for free and it was just what I was looking for. I have found out that I am a one project person. I have two others started, but I can only concentrate on one at a time and the other two just sit there. I guess this goes back to my Ebay days and having to finish one thing at a time to get it online for sale. Whatever the reason, for me this is the only way I can stitch so I better get use to it. :o)
How do you do it? I'd love to hear how others stitch more than one project at a time and how you prioritize what you work on and when.
I will post another update when I get the lower left corner finished. After that I think it should go pretty fast because I'll be working in horizontal rows and they are not very detailed. (Famous last words LOL)

Oh, you're really moving along on this pretty piece, Barbara! I, too, am a one-project-at-a-time stitcher, although this year, I may well branch out and do--gasp!!--two at a time :) I really don't know how people juggle all those projects at once--must be nice!!

ReplyDeleteI'm a "rotation" stitcher but more b/c I often "suffer" from startitis than a concious decision.
Unless I have a time goal, I stitch on one until it gets tedious and then switch to another. Often when I'm working on a bap or a near bap, it's nice to break it up by stitching something small in between (something I can finish).
To each his own, though. I think it's largely a personality/personal preference thing. As long as we're stitching and get some projects done, it doesn't really matter whether we stitch them one at a time or in rotation. :-)
That is a great piece - very beautiful! Like Rita I generally rotate between projects. If I need something to be done by a deadline though I would normally put everything else on a back burner until the said piece is completed. I used to be a 1 project gal - and then I have no idea what happened :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be such a beautiful piece!! I tried to be a rotation stitcher last year, and found that I didn't like having so many things started at once. Unfortunately I still have a lot of them to finish now! So I'm working on one big one with the majority of my stitching time, but each day I put 15 minutes in on one of the other unfinished projects I have around. That way I make progress on them and can finish a few smalls, but the majority of my time is focused on my big project. : )

ReplyDeleteI am definitely a OOAT gal although I have 2 projects ready to work on now. Started one last night & don't know if I'll really be able to do the other at the same time. It just freaks ms out thinking about it ... lol! I have several projects due before the end of the month so this was my driving force behind my "trying to do two at the same time" decision. ReplyDeleteI suffer from ADD with my stitching. What I've done is that I try to work on either one big project and a small project at a time. That way I can switch off if I get bored with something. Right now I have a sampler with a big verse & I try to put in a thread per day, and then move onto the main sampler. At night, then, when my eyes are tired, I pull out an ornament or BBD stocking.
What a beautiful piece! Until recently, I was a one-project-at-a-time stitcher. This fall I started both Lizzie Kate's Boo Club and Village of Hawk Run Hollow and it absolutely drove me crazy! So, Boo Club is about 2 nights from being done and VOHRH has been sitting idly by, patiently waiting its turn.

ReplyDeleteI stitch until my hands hurt and when I make my first mistake. Then I'll put it down. I start on the upper right and work across to the left.
I cross each stitch before I go to the next one. I used to do all of the right slants and then cross all with the left slanting stitches, but some historians believe from looking at the antique samplers that the girls stitched each stitch that way.
So I'm going with that way!

OAAT suits me best too. I tried rotating last year for one of the foumrs SALs and really didn't enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteTo avoid getting bored with a big project I always have a small one on the go too for stitching during the day.
That way I get lots of new starts and finishes as well as the satisfaction of a BAP!

ReplyDeleteBarbara, it looks beautiful. Love the personalization. I am working on three pieces at once right now.. I do the smaller ones during the week and save the big ones for the weekend. I like switching from piece to piece, it is nice to be working on different fabrics with different colors all the time. Enjoy your weekend!

ReplyDeleteI don't do much rotation as such. I hate it to "have to do" things when it comes to stitching.
My last rotation was that I had a main piece during the week, and 2 weekend pieces that were rotating. Right now I'm stitching on one piece only. I might do something like that above again. But you know...soon as it doesn't feel right anymore, I just look what I would LIKE to do, and that will be it.

ReplyDeleteFor many years I was an OOATer. Then I found I could switch between one large and one small chart. Last year I added a couple SAL's to the mix. As of this month, I have one sampler almost complete and a second one started, as well as 2 SAL's underway - and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! So, now I know my limits! lol
